Welcome to the CFT Astrophysics Group
Who We Are
We are a dynamic team of astronomers and physicists passionate about understanding the universe's most extreme phenomena. Led by Professor Agnieszka Janiuk since 2011, our group is based at the Center for Theoretical Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw.
Our research focuses on the most energetic events in the cosmos—from stellar explosions and collapsing stars to supermassive black holes and their powerful jets. We use advanced numerical simulations to model these phenomena and compare our predictions with observations from space telescopes and ground-based observatories.
Our Research Areas
- Black hole accretion physics and disk dynamics
- Relativistic jets and gamma-ray bursts from collapsing stars
- Neutron star mergers and gravitational wave sources
- Magnetohydrodynamic simulations of extreme environments
- Heavy element nucleosynthesis in astrophysical transients
- Multi-messenger astronomy combining observations and theory
